It has become abundantly clear that any derogatory term to describe Barack Obama is obviously racist. Question his wardrobe…racist. Question his favorite color…racist. Question his belief that wealth should be redistributed…racist:
The “socialist” label that Sen. John McCain and his GOP presidential running mate Sarah Palin are trying to attach to Sen. Barack Obama actually has long and very ugly historical roots.
J. Edgar Hoover, director of the FBI from 1924 to 1972, used the term liberally to describe African Americans who spent their lives fighting for equality.
What the fuck? J. Edgar Hoover? Seriously? A relic that very few Americans could accurately place as the first director of the FBI. Forget trying Obama’s policies to the actual definition of socialsim:
1. a theory or system of social organization that advocates the vesting of the ownership and control of the means of production and distribution, of capital, land, etc., in the community as a whole.
2. procedure or practice in accordance with this theory.
3. (in Marxist theory) the stage following capitalism in the transition of a society to communism, characterized by the imperfect implementation of collectivist principles.
I have no doubt that polices of J. Edgar Hoover were extremely racist, but that has ZERO correlation to Obama playing the liberal, Washington elitist version of Robin Hood. Hell, most Americans have forgotten 9/11 was only seven years ago, so I highly doubt anyone sitting around thinking to themselves: ‘huh, Palin just called Obama a socialist. I remember back when J. Edgar Hoover was witch hunting great African American leaders by calling them socialists.’
